Hotels are the most structured part of travel to work in. Properties are organised into departments, and each has a recognised ladder from entry level to head of department to general management, which makes progression unusually visible. Serviced apartments and resorts hire on the same pattern. The work is shift based, covers evenings and weekends, and volume hiring is normal. Experience carries between properties and between brands more easily than in most of travel, so movement between employers is common and is often the fastest route upward.
